Health as a lifestyle.

All In,
Undivided Within

It seems like every other day, there is a new diet on the map. People seem more confused than ever before. However, beneath the surface, it’s not that complex, if you learn the basics. Every diet is composed of four elements; macro-nutrient ratios, calorie counts, special food groups to be included or removed and lastly, nutrition timing. The human body hasn’t evolved in 10,000 years, but our understanding of how food affects the body is improving.

One diet might help you get back in shape, but it doesn’t mean it’s optimal. Through understanding and observation of how you feel, physically, digestively and mentally, you can tweak and improve your nutrition over time.

Likewise, new fitness modalities are invented every day. Here again, if you study the science of fitness, starting with basic human biochemistry, you come to realize how every fitness system, at the core, triggers one or all of the body’s energy systems; phosphagen, anaerobic or aerobic. This understanding is essential if you want to decipher all fitness programs on the current landscape and select one to achieve your goal of losing weight, by triggering fat loss…build muscle by stimulating muscle synthesis or increase your overall conditioning level.

Wellness IQ

In order to reach a decent level of wellness intelligence, you need around eight to twelve months of learning to get to a level where you can become independent with your nutrition and fitness, at least to a point where you can grow on your own.

But before embarking on this journey, you must ask yourself, is this a priority for you? Are you willing to allocate 3-5 hours a week to get back in shape and increase your wellness IQ? Time tells, how you spend your time reflects your priorities in life.

Experts can write nutrition and fitness plans… others can cook for you but the reality is, unless you become a student again and learn nutrition and fitness science, you will not succeed. It has to become second nature, like driving a car, here the vehicle, the spaceship, is your body.

Your Environment

First off, if you are all in, undivided within, your environment cannot stop you from reaching your fitness goals. It’s crucial to understand how your surroundings, friends, family, and culture can influence you, for better or worse, when it comes to your lifestyle.

You need to cross two bridges in order to create a sustainable healthy lifestyle. The first one is creating some space between you and your environment, where you can think for yourself, without outside noises. The second bridge is creating a space between you, deep down, and your mind…Where you can consciously turn off bad eating habits, thoughts, desires and wants, then plant seeds for a new you to emerge.

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”- Pablo Picasso

Health-care or Disease-care?

160 million Americans are overweight or obese, 16 million live with chronic back pain, 75 million with high blood pressure. The second cause of disability are depressive disorders, from anxiety to stress and depression. Record high overdose and suicide. The health care system is focused on managing diseases, at one end of the spectrum, versus disease prevention. From a business perspective, the disease management industry is exponentially more lucrative than the prevention industry.

The average American is not pro-active with his health, waiting unconsciously to fall sick and spend thousand of dollars on managing diseases rather than moving, exercising regularly and consuming healthy food. How much is your health and wellbeing worth? Rather than waiting on government healthcare reforms, becoming responsible for your own health is more realistic. Are you pro-active or reactive with your health?
