  • Dr Amiya Prasad – Oculoplastic and Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon

“I have always been drawn to the beauty of the face and human body. As a young artist, I spent much time analyzing how the balance of features combines with the fluidity of expressions to yield a truly individual face on every person.”

    Amiya Prasad, M.D.

    New York Doctor Amiya Prasad

A native New Yorker, Amiya Prasad was surrounded by faces: faces of many cultures, ages and ethnicities. Their movements and expressions, structures and muscles inspired Prasad to pursue his sub-specialty oculofacial (eye and face) surgery. Today he is ranked in the company of only about 500 oculofacial surgeons worldwide.

Amiya Prasad earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1988 and went on to continue his internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center. He accepted a pre-residency research fellowship in the highly competitive Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. He completed his residency in eye surgery at Brookdale University Hospital. There, Prasad mastered the intricate techniques of microscopic surgery.

In 1993, Dr. Prasad began a Fellowship in Oculofacial Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas-Galveston; a Preceptorship in ENT/Facial Plastic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, followed from 1994 to 1995. Brookdale University Hospital recognized for outstanding surgical results, had Dr. Prasad develop a highly specialized Oculofacial Plastic Surgery Division. He served as Chief of Surgery at the Oculofacial Plastic Surgery Division, Brookdale University Hospital from 1995 to 1998.

Dr. Prasad wanted to pursue a more personalized approach to aesthetic surgery. In 1998 Prasad Cosmetic Surgery, his private practice, opened on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with a second office in Garden City, Long Island.

Today, Dr. Prasad is widely regarded by his patients and peers as the very best in his field. His finely perfected surgical techniques result in rejuvenated natural appearances that do not alter the unique characteristics that each individual face possesses.

Dr. Amiya Prasad is a super-specialist, a medical term that describes copious training, experience and accreditation that amounts to superior specialization within a particular field.

  • What is a Vampire Facelift?

The Vampire Facelift® is a “designer procedure” developed as a way to enhance volume in the face using a combination of hyaluronic acid (such as Restylane) and platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM), which is a thicker form of platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

The key ingredient of the Vampire Facelift® is platelet-rich fibrin matrix, which is derived from the patient’s own blood before being mixed with other factors. Platelet-rich fibrin matrix starts with a blood draw, just like any normal blood test.

The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then separated by spinning the patient’s blood through a centrifuge. Platelet-rich plasma appears as a clear yellow serum after it is separated from the darker components made mostly of red blood cells.

Calcium chloride (CaCl) or another activator is added to the PRP to turn it into the thicker and longer lasting platelet-rich fibrin matrix. Platelet-rich plasma is used in the medical field for its wound and injury healing properties. It also stimulates the production of collagen and for tissue regeneration.

These properties makes platelet-rich fibrin matrix an ideal natural serum for rejuvenating facial skin quality and volume with increased collagen production, blood supply, and new skin and fatty tissue generation, creating that youthful appearance that comes with healthier skin.

  • Dr Prasad Philosophy

“No one should ever compliment you on your plastic surgery because they should never be able to tell that you had it.”  — Amiya Prasad, M.D.

In our modern society, appearance is the most powerful and influential indicator of how we are perceived.  We all age, and we rationally admit to ourselves that physical signs of aging are inevitable.  However, oftentimes the mirror does not reflect the same person we see in our mind’s eye.

Dr. Prasad recognizes the all-important need to serve the resounding desire of his patients to look as young as they feel, without altering the integrity of those desirable and beautiful expressions that make each individual unique.

As an Oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Prasad’s primary interest in cosmetic surgery is to bring about a natural-looking appearance.  His artistic eye, experience and unparalleled skills as a micro surgeon are paramount in his highly-specialized field of Cosmetic Ocularfacial Surgery.

  • Candidates for The Vampire Facelift

The Vampire Facelift® is not for everyone. People with more advanced signs of aging may benefit more from surgical treatment and/or Botox applications.

People with less visible signs of aging may benefit from using less extensive non-surgical procedures like hyaluronic acid fillers and platelet-rich plasma alone. A personal consultation with an accredited provider like Oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Amiya Prasad is the best way to determine if The Vampire Facelift® is right for you.

  • A Leading Practitioner of The Vampire Facelift

Oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Amiya Prasad has appeared on Fox News New York performing The Vampire Facelift®, and has made a commentary about the procedure in The New York Post, The Daily News, and Access Hollywood. The procedure has been featured nationally on The Doctors, Dr. OzCBS Newsthe New York TimesABC’s Nightline and The Huffington Post. Dr. Prasad is recognized as one of the leading doctors of The Vampire Facelift® by his clients, the viewing public, and by The Vampire Facelift® Inventor, Dr. Charles Runels.

The procedure was made famous by Kim Kardashian, who underwent a procedure called “The Vampire Facial” in 2013 (referring to it as a “blood facial”). When The Vampire Facelift® or the Vampire Facial is done properly, the patient will not experience any significant pain or have much blood on their face, unlike Kim Kardashian’s much publicized experience with the procedure.

  • How the Vampire Facelift Helps You Look Younger

The face ages in two ways:

    • There is loss of volume from bone, muscle, fat, and skin. This can make the under eye area and cheeks look flat and hollow. The skin can look dull or gray instead of being rosy as it was when younger.
    • The loss of support of the skin results in drooping upper eyelids, lower eyelids, cheeks , jowls and sagging neck skin (“turkey neck”).
  • Hyaluronic Acid Fillers for Adding Youthful Volume

The first step of The Vampire Facelift® is the application of an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler like Restylane or Juvederm. One of the two main components of the facial aging process is the loss of volume due to a reduction of facial bone, muscle and fat in an area known as “the apples of the cheeks”.

Dermal fillers add youthful volume to the face, while keeping a natural appearance. Hyaluronic acid fillers do not paralyze facial muscles like Botox, so volume is added without inhibiting facial movement or expressions. There is an art to the application of fillers for a natural and youthful appearance, and you can be confident that Dr. Prasad will apply his natural artistic abilities, technical skills and 20 years’ worth of experience to perform your procedure in the best possible way.

  • Rejuvenating Facial Skin from Within

The platelet-rich fibrin matrix is placed after a numbing cream has been applied, resulting in a near painless application. Platelet-rich fibrin matrix contains at least eight of the body’s own concentrated growth factors to rejuvenate the face in several ways:

    1. Increases the formation of new blood vessels (also called “neovascularization”) and increases the blood flow to the skin, resulting in healthier, better quality skin.
    2. Increases new cell formation for skin renewal.
    3. Spurs the production of new collagen, the major component of facial skin that diminishes in facial aging.
    4. Activates the multi-potent stem cells already in the skin by tricking it into thinking there is an injury, resulting in the use of a combination of growth factors and stem cells to generate new fatty tissue. The new fatty tissue repairs skin that was never injured in the first place, resulting in the generation of new, younger-skin.
  • A quick procedure that keeps working for several months

The Vampire Facelift procedure only takes about an hour to complete, and that includes the: blood draw, preparation of the PRP, platelet-rich fibrin matrix, and The Vampire Facelift® treatment itself. Since skin renewal and rejuvenation is using the body’s own active regeneration components, facial skin renewal is continual for about 3 months after the procedure. The overall effects of the Vampire Facelift® can last for over a year.

  • The Vampire Facelift on Smokers

Cigarette smoke interferes with the body’s growth factors and with tissue healing and regeneration. If you do smoke, The Vampire Facelift® will not produce the same results as it would in a non-smoker. Smokers may be better off with hyaluronic acid filler application such as Restylane or Juvederm rather than using platelet-rich fibrin matrix.

  • The Vampire Facelift can be Combined with Other Procedures

The Vampire Facelift® can be done in conjunction with wrinkle treatments such as Botox or Dysport. Dr. Prasad can help you determine what complementary procedures are right for your individual case, and develop a treatment plan that you are comfortable with.

Commonly asked questions

  • How much is a facelift cost?

The term refers to a range of procedure, full facelift, short scar facelift and/or neck lift. It is also often associated with volume enhancement methods with fillers or eyelift surgery to remove eye bags if necessary. The cost is determined individually, depending on the extent and type of facelift procedure, and accompanying procedures. Insurance does not cover any costs related to facelift or any cosmetic surgery. Contact our patient coordinator to arrange your consultation.

  • Are there any facelift alternatives?

Many “revolutionary” procedures and devices claim to be produce facelift results without surgery. They do not. Clever (and expensive) marketing combined with manipulated photos and persuasive testimonials have resulted in many people wasting money time and even be worse off than when they started. The latest laser and heating devices can tighten skin, but exceeding a safe amount of exposure to the skin in attempt to replace surgical lifting can damage and thin the skin, and also compromise the health of the essential fat layer beneath the skin responsible for youthful suppleness.

We do offer the Vampire Facelift® and the Y Lift®, but these procedures do not replace surgical facelifting. The Vampire Facelift® using a hyaluronic acid filler and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) does have a moderate outward lifting effect, but it still meant for patients in their 30s and 40s who are not yet candidates for a surgical facelift. The procedure is more of subtle volume enhancement and skin quality improvement. The Y Lift® is a deep volume enhancing procedure, where the placement of cosmetic fillers on bone and underneath the muscle lifts skin away from bone structure, but it does not vertically lift skin, or tighten soft tissue. The Y Lift® is also a procedure meant for people who are still too young to be candidates for a facelift as skin and soft tissue laxity is not yet their major issue, but volume loss is their primary concern.

  • Can I do something before I schedule my facelift?

Yes. With the understanding that a non-surgical procedure does not replace a properly performed facelift, Dr. Prasad will customize a solution which can help you look better. Some of these non-invasive procedures include the Vampire Facelift®, the Y Lift®, facial fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse, and wrinkle treatments like Botox® or Dysport®. During consultation, Dr. Prasad will help guide you with the options best suited for you.
