Kim Kardashian Undergoes So Called “Vampire Facial”

It’s the bloody secret Kim Kardashian is turning to in order stay beautiful and it isn’t for the faint of heart.

It’s being called the vampire facelift or the vampire facial. It promises younger, firmer-looking skin.

Kim underwent the procedure on the latest episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami. First, blood is taken from her arm, and then spun into a platelet-rich plasma.

The blood is then combined with a wrinkle-filler and then, the mixture is injected into the skin with tiny motorized needles.

It’s supposed to fill in fine lines and acne scars.

Kim tweeted a photo of what she looked like after the procedure and her face was a bloody mess. Some are even comparing it to the horror movie, Carrie.

And it’s not just Kim. Plenty of women looking for younger looking skin are undergoing the procedure.

Cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Amiya Prasad, says he performs four vampire facelifts a week at his office in Manhattan.

Dr. Prasad said, “You want to go deep if you want to generate more collagen more aggressively for problems such as fine-lines, wrinkles or sun damage.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes and Dr. Prasad says results can last for about six months.

Kim Kardashian’s $1,500 ‘vampire facial’ is a Hollywood hit that promises younger, firmer-looking skin

Kim Kardashian has a Vampire Facelift on camera for ‘KIm and Kourtney Take Miami.’

Keeping up with the Kardashians is getting bloody ridiculous.

Attention-starved Kim K tweeted a shot of her blood-spattered face after a vampire facial, the gruesome $1,500 treatment that promises younger, firmer-looking skin.

The Vampire Facelift – trademarked by Alabama doctor Charles Runels draws blood from the patient’s arm with a needle and separates the platelets into a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) using a centrifuge.

The plasma is then combined with Restylane or Juvederm, and then injected into the face to stimulate collagen production to create new skin and to remove fine lines and acne scars. The 45-minute Facelift is expected to be such a hit in Hollywood that a gift certificate for the painful procedure was included in this year’s Academy Awards swag bag.

Beauty takes pain for Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West’s baby mama documented the spa session on the latest episode of “Kim and Kourtney Take Miami,” where she visits the Miami Institute for Age Management for the controversial treatment. “Ow, that hurts so bad!” cries the reality star in the clip as blood streams down her face.

The extreme reaction is because her treatment includes the invasive Dermapen, a device that uses nine tiny motorized needles to cause puncture wounds in the skin before applying the platelet-rich plasma mixure.

Plenty of New York women are willing to face the pain, however, for a chance to look younger. Cosmetic surgeon Amiya Prasad performs four Vampire Facelifts a week at his upper East Side practice.

“This is a more aggressive treatment than a regular facial,” says Prasad, who charges around $1,200 for a 45-minute blood facial, “but it’s justified because skin quality improves quite nicely.” He says typically clients notice results in a couple of days that last four to six months.

Kim Kardashian didn’t take the facial quietly!

But you’ll want to wait a day or two before dinner parties or meeting small children since the Dermapen causes bleeding and swelling just like Kardashian’s beauty bloodbath.

“But as bad as your face may look on the day of the procedure, it’s remarkable how good people can look a couple of days later,” he says.

Some medi-spas claim that the reality star’s blood-soaked procedure was played up for the cameras.

“It’s completely absurd,” says Dr. Jack Berdy, the director of SmoothMED, a walk-in Botox boutique in midtown that also offers the Vampire Facelift. He uses less-invasive injections than the Dermapen seen in the video. “You inject it like you would any other filler,” he says. “You can do it on your lunch break.”

Kardashian is supposed to have a ‘youthful’ look after undergoing the painful procedure.

Plus, Berdy points out that the plasma mixture on Kardashian’s face should be yellow not red. “Her procedure is not set in any sense of reality,” he scoffs.

Dr. Anthony P. Sclafani, the director of facial plastic surgery at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, explains the red smears all over Kardashian’s face could come from not separating the platelets completely.

“Maybe there’s still some blood in it,” suggests Sclafani, who’s done extensive research on the competing $1,500 Selphyl system. He also injects platelet-rich plasma for facial rejuvenation, but without mixing in the added fillers. It’s a simple injection, much like getting Botox or Restalyne. “No needle is fun, but most people are able to do this without any anesthesia,” he says. “They shouldn’t scream in pain like that.”

Even Prasad, who uses the Dermapen regularly, laughed after watching Kardashian’s onscreen procedure. “That looks pretty barbaric!” he says. “She’s a celebrity so, of course, she deals with everything very dramatically.”

He adds, “It can be done very, very gently, and I won’t let what happened to Kim Kardashian happen to you.”

Great for all skin types and ages, Prasad Medical Skin Care made a suitable gift for the celebs. One actress with a film premiere at Sundance commented, “Do you have anything for underneath my eyes? I just saw myself on screen, and I realized I’ve got to start doing something about my skin.” She gladly accepted the Eye Rescue by Prasad, “this couldn’t come at a better time.”

The lovely ladies, such as Carrie Preston, Mimi Rogers, and Vanessa Branch, fell in love with the Satin-C Gel and Collagen Peptide Gel by Prasad Medical Skin Care. Another favorite was the non-greasy, lightweight sunscreen Moist Silk Defense SPF-30. The skin care products all went, and actress Alexis Dziena got there just in time to get her pH Balance Cleanser.

The men were not shy about their interest in taking care of their skin either. For actors such as Wilmer Valderrama, Casper Van Dien, and The Bachelor’s Ben Flajnik, we recommended the pH Balance Cleanser and Daily Toning Pads by Prasad Medical Skincare. For NFL athletes Jared Odrick and Thomas Howard, the Moist Silk Defense SPF-30 was a must-have. “Shameless” star William H. Macy had no shame in getting the Skin Survival Kit for his wife Felicity Huffman.
Another grateful guest (who just so happens to be a producer), added, “did you know culturally the name ‘Prasad’ means ‘sweet gift’? So thank you for this!”

Silver Hill Gala kick-off

For those keeping up with us at AVENUEinsider, gala season is well underway, which means for us attending a slew of kick-off parties that help raise awareness for the charity.  On Tuesday night, Shafi Roepers hosted a fashionable crowd at her gorgeous uptown apartment for the 2011 Silver Hill Gala, being held at Cipriani 42nd Street on November 3rd. Silver Hill is a non-for-profit psychiatric hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut that provides both acute crisis control and longer term residential treatment for psychiatric disorders including addiction and depression.

In attendance at the cocktail fete were this year’s Gala honorary co-chairs Michael Cominotto and designer Dennis Basso, who inspired the first gala event in 2010. Through their dedication and generous efforts, they raised $1.3 million for scholarships for adolescents and young adults needing financial aid to fund residential care at the hospital, something that is not covered by insurance.

Once again, net proceeds from this year will be directed to scholarship support for residential treatment at Silver Hill; this year, however, the focus will expand to include patients of all ages.

Among the fashionable and charitable-minded who turned out to show their support were: Gala Chairs Dr. Sigurd Ackerman and Cecilia McCarton, Pamela Fiori, Janine and Lawrence Haynes, Dr. Amiya Prasad, Jill Roosevelt, Christian Leone, Jamie Gleicher and Rachel Heller.  Mr. Basso gave a speech that was simultaneously witty and heartfelt, saying that “The Silver Hill hospital is very near and dear to us,” and elaborated that “Silver Hill is a rehabilitaton hospital, but it is not JUST that.” He then dryly concluded: “if I forgot anything, I did my best, so…have another drink.” Well, only some of us did.

Speaking of those known for their quick wit, Carrie Fisher—esteemed author, award winning actress, and former patient of Silver Hill – will be honored at the November 3rd Gala for her advocacy work on behalf of mental illness.  While she was not present on Tuesday night, she will be front and center at the Gala celebration, and will undoubtedly entertain and inspire all those who attend.  Definitely an evening we will mark on our ever-busy social calendar.
